Evan Races Back to VIR's Camp Motorsport
Another summer at the camp devoted to motorsport!

Tuesday, June 22nd will mark the beginning of Evan's Summer 2010 time at VIRginia International Raceway's Camp Motorsport.
His first experience there was as a camper in 2007.
That time was so enjoyable, he's returned for three years in a row now as an employee of the Camp.
This season the Camp has created a position specifically for Evan and as such he'll be part of the instructional staff.
"Being at VIRginia International Raceway as a staff member of Camp Motorsport is a great way to spend my summer time!" enthused Evan. "Especially since it involves driving and racing education. I'm happy that the Camp has asked me to be an instructor this year; with my experience I'll be able to offer a lot of insight to the kids coming to Camp this year."

Camp Motorsport is a unique race car driving sports specialty summer camp where campers participate in hands-on racing education at VIRginia International Raceway, Alton VA
Evan York has been driving and racing since the age of seven. He is currently a full-time high school student where he is a member of the National Honor Society, cross-country running and track teams as well as president of the extracurricular club, Maverick Motorsports. Evan York To Compete At Daytona International Speedway
As President of Mallard Creek High School's Maverick Motorsports Team, Evan Leads Peers To 2010 Finals
Maverick Motorsports - a Fast Track Racing Challenges (FTRC) team based at Mallard Creek High School's Academy of Engineering in Charlotte, NC - will be competing from May 21st through May 23rd at Daytona International Speedway with FastTrack RC teams from around the nation for the 2010 FastTrack RC National STEM League Finals.
Like all FTRC teams, Maverick Motorsports mirrors professional motorsport teams by competing in a national points race. The team seeks to score points in all possible categories including project planning, marketing and the challenge of achieving maximum performance using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) with RC cars.
Noted Evan ahead of the trip to Daytona:
I knew I'd be competing at Daytona sometime in my motorsport career. I just didn't think it'd be with a remote control car! Seriously, the entire Maverick Motorsports team has worked very hard. I, along with our faculty advisers - led by Mr. Tyler Brooks - are eager to compete against other strong schools.
The FTRC was initiated in a late 1990's NSF grant in which the investigators were tasked with integrating differentiated and problem / project-based learning into the classroom. It was cutting-edge at the time and the RC car was the stand-out tool because it can reach high achieving and struggling students alike. Today's FTRC is the product of over 10 years of curriculum, network and resource development by STEM and motorsports professionals, teachers, community leaders and of course...enthusiastic students.

YORK Motorsport Ready For VLK 24 Hours of Charlotte Endurance Race

Father and son duo, Kevin and Evan York have again been recruited by Jade Gurss and his fingerprint inc. team; for the 2010 24 Hours of Charlotte @ Victory Lane Karting endurance race.
Victory Lane Karting (VLK) - an indoor race facility located in Charlotte, NC - will be hosting their third annual twenty-four hour endurance race on the Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day weekend.

The event will begin on Sunday, May 30th at ten AM and conclude twenty-four fun - and fast-paced - hours later at ten AM on Monday, May 31st!
One of the premier endurance karting events in North America, Victory Lane Indoor Karting will show the competitors a few new twists and turns, thanks to a reconfigured track and new generation Sodikart RX-7 racing karts.
Past events were marked by passes to win with less than 45 minutes remaining, and finished with just 11 seconds separating the winning team from second place.
Home track advantage will be minimized during the 24 Hours of Charlotte, as all the karts are identical and assigned randomly. Additionally, kart equality will be maximized as the teams will switch karts at each fuel stop.

YORK Motorsport updates during the event can be found on Twitter: @YORKMotorsport & @EvanYork
Event coverage and information can be found at Victory Lane Karting's website here.

Evan Completes Successful Dirt Late Model Test
New Experiences On Dirt Continue For Young Driver

Having recently completed a successful test in an open-wheel sprint car, Evan York was asked by Shawn Parker - owner of the Dirt Track Racing School team - to return and test a dirt late model race car.
Under the guidance of chief instructor Mark Lowrey, Evan learned the nuances of negotiating a red-clay oval in a large, V8 powered stock car - a radical departure from the nimble go-kart and formula cars he is used to racing on asphalt road courses!
On whole, the day was very constructive and positive.

Evan York Returns To Carolina Speedway To Test Dirt Late Model
Successful First Test Leads To Call Back
Coming on the heels of a great first experience driving a race car on dirt, Shawn Parker of Dirt Track Racing School has invited Evan to test one of the team's Dirt Late Models.
When Evan hits the red clay at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina during the weekend of 3/4 April, he'll again have guidance from experienced racer and DTRS lead instructor, Mark Lowrey.

Dirt Late Model racing can be traced back to the origins of the automobile and competitive auto racing itself.
As a well-rounded racer, Evan has learned to be always open to new opportunities.
"I couldn't be more pleased to be returning to Carolina Speedway to drive yet another awesome race car." exclaimed Evan on learning of the invitation to test. "Shawn, Mark, and the entire Dirt Track Racing School team provide great cars and feedback. I appreciate their professionalism and know I'll learn a lot this weekend."
Most assuredly interested fans can find updates on Evan's Twitter account (@EvanYork) as well as YORK Motorsport's (@YORKMotorsport).

Evan to Test Sprint Car at Carolina Speedway
UPDATE: THE TEST HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED. FEBRUARY 13th IS THE PROPOSED DATE. HOWEVER, THE FORECAST PRECEDING THAT DAY IS FOR A RETURN OF UNSEASONABLE SNOW AND COLD. DUE TO THOSE CONDITIONS, THE TRACK SURFACE - WHICH IS CLAY - MAY NOT BE SAFELY PREPARED FOR PROPER USE. STAY TUNED...
In an effort to increase his versatility and have a new experience, Evan will be testing an open-wheel sprint car at Carolina Speedway in early January.
For those readers that aren't familiar with what a sprint car is, here is a description from our friends at the Dirt Track School:
"The Sprint Car is the thoroughbred of dirt track racing. This unique racecar’s lightweight frame gives the Sprint Car an impressive power-to-weight ratio, while its massive top wing and huge right rear tire push the limits of what a dirt track can handle. The Sprint Car uses a direct drive system that reduces weight and prevents the loss of power through a transmission. The Sprint Car runs on alcohol and is a push-start racecar."
The experience will be very different from the open-wheel formula cars Evan has driven on world-class road-racing circuits or the go-karts he has raced and won in.
"I'm very eager to have a chance to try out something new!" enthused Evan recently from his Charlotte, NC home. "I look to motorsport history and see several drivers that have achieved a lot - and are respected - who have experience on dirt tracks in sprint cars. The car control skills I'll need to exhibit to keep the car in check can only help me in all my driving."

VLK 12 Hour Endurance Race - Evan To Race 2nd Annual Event
Evan York has been recruited once again by Jade Gurss and his fingerprint inc. team for the second annual 12 Hours of Victory Lane Karting endurance race.
Evan - a nationally ranked indoor kart racer with IndoorKartingNews.com's IKN Driver Rankings - has been training regularly for the event.
"Between my regular fitness routine, running with my high-school's cross-country team, and practice sessions at Victory Lane Karting with my dad, I feel ready to perform at a high level." remarked Evan. "I'm very happy Jade (Gurss) has invited me to join his team again. I hope my dad (Kevin York) is able to find time in his schedule to join us too."
Victory Lane Karting (VLK) - an indoor race facility located in Charlotte, NC - is hosting their second twelve hour endurance race - likely sponsored by NOS Energy Drink - on Saturday, 5 December 2009.
The race event will begin at ten and conclude twelve fun and fast-paced hours later at ten am on Sunday!
The race track at VLK is a one-third mile road course that challenges the drivers greatly. There is a possibility that a portion of the track may go outside for this event...
The karts are made in Europe by Sodikart and are the latest RX7 model - these are not your ordinary karts. They are actual racing karts that reach top speeds of forty miles per hour at two-inches off of the ground.
Race updates - perhaps even during the event - will be found on either www.twitter.com/EvanYork or www.twitter.com/YORKMotorsport

Successful Day of Testing for Evan at Carolina Motorsports Park
Evan tests CRG/ROTAX to good effect at new karting facility.
With over four hours of track time, Evan was able to come up to speed quickly with both a new track and new kart combination today.
With kart owner and tuner J.Robert, and Evan's dad as coach and spotter, Evan was able to not only learn the new track but begin to build a knowledge base for - the almost inevitable fact of - future WKA national-level kart racing at Carolina Motorsports Park's new state-of-the-art karting track.
"I couldn't be more pleased with how today went." enthused Evan at day's end. "With Jason's and my dad's help, today was a success. I enjoyed not only the track but the additional horsepower that the ROTAX engine offers over my regular HPV. I look forward to racing here!"

Evan Heads to New Kart Track at Carolina Motorsports Park
UPDATE - Evan will be testing a CRG/Rotax kart this weekend instead of driving his trusty FOX/HPV - which will remain in the YORK Motorsport workshop in Charlotte.
YORK Motorsport driver, Evan York, will be taking to the brand new track surface at Carolina Motorsports Park this weekend.
As part of extensive track expansions and renovations, CMP will be unveiling its state-of-the-art kart track.

Diagram of the new kart track at Carolina Motorsports Park
"I can't wait to drive down the new straightaway at top speed," said York, currently recognized as one of America’s top indoor kart racing drivers. "We’ve been anticipating this new outdoor kart track at CMP for a long time. To be able to participate in the debut weekend is awesome. We’ll be working on our outdoor karting program and testing some set-up options for the new track.”
The multi-directional track will have countless configurations including 16 turns and a 760-foot straightaway with a 26 ft. wide surface. Along with being one of a mere handful in the southeast, and the only one in South Carolina, the track will also be sanctioned by the World Karting Association.
According to track manager, Jochen Tartak, “...we are thrilled to put a national caliber track in…”

Evan, with Team GoFast.Pro, Win NASA Kart Enduro
Evan, Ian and Dylan of team GoFast.Pro dominate - with a dash of adversity - Twilight Kart Enduro #6 at VIR Kart Track

Tommy Turner, Director of team GoFast.Pro picks up the story:
This evening's NASA Twilight Enduro was fun for the team as well. We were very happy to have Evan York join us for the race. Evan did an incredible job getting the team out in front from the start and then held and impressive lead for his 40 minute shift. We had a bit of a falter with a bobble getting Ian out quickly on the driver exchange lost a little time but going down a bit after some confusion on a mandatory stop and go. Ian did a great job of recovering and after some confusion (to my dehydrated mind anyway) we realized we were still ahead of the pack. Dylan took the final shift and drove very smoothly through a lot of chaos as the tires on all the karts started wearing. We ended with a two lap lead over the rest of the field sweeping the enduros for the weekend.

Evan (third from left) prepares to pass the two leading karts during the opening lap.

Evan created a substantial lead...the rest of the field is way behind!

Evan Tests a Formula SB car at Road Atlanta

Evan and his family decided to make Road Atlanta and Skip Barber Racing the scene and the provider, respectively, of his first step toward a professional motorsport career.
Skip Barber Racing-trained drivers have won every major United States auto racing championship.
On average, a third of the drivers in the Indy500 and any given NASCAR Sprint Cup race, are Skip Barber graduates.
Evan has a desire to emulate that precedent.
Skip Barber Racing operates a fully integrated system of racing schools, driving schools, racing championships, and corporate events. No other organization delivers the same high quality instruction, equipment, facilities and memorable experiences.

Evan Takes Another Step Toward A Dream
Soon, Evan York will travel to Road Atlanta, one the world’s best road racing courses. The multi-purpose motorsport facility is situated on 750 park-like acres in the rolling hills of Northeast Georgia approximately 35 miles north of Atlanta.
York, a seasoned kart racer and fledgling open-wheel race car driver, will be testing at the famous Road Atlanta road course on June 15th with Skip Barber Racing in a Formula SB race car.
"I can't wait to work the staff at Skip Barber" mentioned Evan. "This will be the first time I've tested a car with them. Actually, it will be my first time in a full-size racing car. That and the fact that it will be at Road Atlanta make me very eager."

Finished! Evan York and Dad Finish 24 Hours of Charlotte

Evan (right) chasing down a competitor during the 2009 24 Hours of Charlotte
While the result certainly was not what team fingerprint inc. was after, great racing and lots of fun ensued at the 2009 24 Hours of Charlotte.
Putting a frustrating Friday night qualifying behind him, YORK Motorsport driver - and fingerprint inc. "ringer" - Evan York started the karting endurance race for the team from the thirteenth spot.
Driving in his signature methodical yet aggressive manner, Evan moved up through the field.
After his double stint Evan handed the kart over to his dad, Kevin York. Kevin maintained the improved position and handed over the kart once more to Evan.
At the end of the first three hours of the event, Evan and Kevin had collectively brought the fingerprint inc. entry well inside the top ten!

With two fourths and a one dominating win, Evan completed three heats successfully enough to enter today's Final of the 2009 North Carolina Indoor Karting Championship.
While Evan did not win the Overall Championship, a strong top-10 finish in the overall standings is very noteworthy.

Dramatic Win for Evan York at Round 7 of NCIKC
With a win and three heat podiums, Evan posts fastest time of day and passes to win on last lap of Final
(Charlotte, NC) 4 May 2009—Following a disappointing Round 6 of the North Carolina Indoor Karting Championship (NCIKC), Evan York was focused on his personal performance and eager for Round 7 at Rush Hour Karting in Garner, NC.
With determined patience, Evan drove brilliantly in his three preliminary heats that resulted in three podium finishes – one of which was a win.
Starting the Final from the outside front row position, Evan was certain to have a challenging race ahead of him.
With veteran racer Scott Bulger directly behind him, Evan gave chase to Adrian Smith who had started from pole position.
“I knew I couldn’t rest for a moment as I shadowed Adrian trying to find a weak spot in his driving,” said Evan. “Scott is such an experienced driver; I knew he’d be doing the same to me!”
Starting the penultimate lap it seemed Evan was going to finish in the second position. However, it turned out that he had different plans.
“I had found a couple spots I felt that I was faster than Adrian in,” said Evan, who hadn’t won a Final round yet. “I saw the opening that Adrian left and I went for it. Holding on for the win was a terrific feeling I can tell you!”
Entering the event, Evan was twelfth of thirty-nine drivers in the overall NCIKC championship standings. His performances netted him a significant upward movement in those standings and heads into the final round of the Championship now in seventh.
This event was one of the more equal and competitive events of the NCIKC. Rush Hour Karting worked hard to provide very well prepared and evenly matched Sodikart RX7s for the race meeting. As a matter of fact, the average time spread in the Final was only four-tenths of a second.
The North Carolina Indoor Karting Championship returns to Victory Lane Karting in Charlotte, NC on Sunday May 10 for its final and deciding round.

Evan Looks Forward to Penultimate Round of NCIKC
Penultimate round of the North Carolina Indoor Karting Championship this weekend.

With the momentum of a heat win and a strong run in the final during the previous round at The Pit Indoor Kart Racing in Mooresville, NC, Evan is eager to get to the racing at Rush Hour Karting in Garner, NC.
"I feel very good entering this next round of The Championship." noted Evan from his home in Charlotte. "While we've slipped out of the top-ten in the overall points standings, there has been a lot of good racing and I'm looking forward to more! The new SodiKarts that Rush Hour just received should make it very competitive as well."

Amongst The High Drama At Round 6 of NCIKC Evan Wins A Race!
Evan and a VLK teammate discuss race strategy. Credit AVF
The soap opera that the NCIKC has become continued today at The Pit Indoor Racing Center in Mooresville, NC
Of the three preliminary heats, Evan won once(!) and finished fourth and sixth in the others.
With sufficient points in place, Evan readied for the Final race.
Questionable driving tactics by competitors and other incidents allowed for the race to be stopped and re-started three times. With all the melee, Evan ended up finishing just outside the top ten. At race's end, York was found two-tenths of a pound (!?) under the required weight. Due to the abundance of controversy, the results of it are still 'pending' as this is written. Updates will follow as they become available.

Evan Endures Frustration At Round 4 of NCIKC

*
Returning to Grand Prix Greensboro (GPG) for Round 4 of the NCIKC, Evan was optimistic that the event would be a good one.
After the controversies from Round 1 at GPG racers were assured that the event would be run this time in a bit more normal and fair manner.
That fact indeed came to pass; the only challenge the drivers had to contend with this time - other than the very narrow confines of the track itself - was the immense variability in the racing karts' performance.
Of the three karts provided Evan for the three heats, two proved to be problematic. Being that GPG do not have many karts in reserve, drivers were forced to drive karts that had performance hindering issues.
That said, Evan put his head down and got to business.
Even his competitors acknowledged that his driving performance in each of the karts he drove was outstanding.
For this round, Evan did not accumulate enough points to make the final. Further, he sustained a blow to his NCIKC championship points total and fell from ninth overall to twelfth (of over 38 drivers in the Championship).
"Sometimes you are dealt a bad hand, just like playing cards. I tried to play the cards - drive the karts - just as well as I could. Today, that wasn't good enough for points but I'm personally satisfied with how I drove what I was given." Evan noted a few hours after the event.
The NCIKC takes the Easter weekend off and will start up again at the Championship's fourth participating facility - Rush Hour Karting in Raleigh, NC - on Saturday, 18 April.

Evan Has Busy Round 3 Weekend - On To Round 4!
Sunday the 29th of March proved to be a very busy day for Evan York!
Not only was it time for the third round of the North Carolina Indoor Karting Championship (NCIKC), there were additional racing activities as well!
Starting actually late the prior (Saturday) night, Evan and his entourage (okay so it was only "Dad", but hey, he's a cool racer dude too...!) arrived at Victory Lane Karting for the opening round of VLK F1
Evan and several VLK teammates enjoyed watching the live SPEEDtv feed of the Formula One race from Australia on an HD projector screen situated in the luxurious environs of VLK.
In addition to watching the race, many VLK racers participated in a celebratory F1 karting event, which consisted of a thirty-minute practice, eight-minute qualifying, and a fifteen-minute race.
This opportunity afforded Evan some great practice for the third round of the NCIKC - to be held later that very same morning at VLK!
By the time all the race-watching and racing-doing was done, the time was hovering around four-thirty in the morning!
Back home to bed for a bit of rest and back to VLK for NCIKC racing!
Evan performed well in each of the three heats and accumulated sufficient points to advance to the Round's final event.
Starting last in the field, Evan advanced two positions and fought valiantly for one more. However, timing did not work to Evan's advantage and he settled for the tenth finishing spot.
By virtue of his good heat race finishes along with the points accumulated in the final, Evan remains ninth of thirty-eight overall positions in the Championship.
The NCIKC returns to action at Grand Prix Greensboro on Sunday, 5 April. This is the first repeat venue of the year. Can Evan advance in the Championship standings? Follow along on Twitter and find out!

Evan's ready for Round 3 of the NCIKC
After a disappointing second round of the North Carolina Indoor Karting Championship (NCIKC) at The Pit in Mooresville, North Carolina, Evan York has reset his goals and is now looking forward to racing this weekend at his home track facility of Victory Lane Karting.
Evan enters the weekend's race still solidly within the top-ten in overall NCIKC championship points.
Of thirty-eight listed drivers in the points tally, York is currently ninth.
"We've practiced quite a bit with our fellow VLK teammates and I'm looking forward to racing in the quality SodiKart RX7 racing karts that VLK have always ready and properly prepared for racing." enthused Evan earlier this week during a test session at Victory Lane Karting.

Racing gets underway at 1000 AM on Sunday, 29 March 2009.

Great start for Evan at Round 1 of the NCIKC
Evan leaves Round 1 of the NCIKC in strong position
Dateline: Grand Prix Greensboro, Greensboro, North Carolina
At the conclusion of the first round of the 2009 North Carolina Indoor Karting Championship (NCIKC), of thirty-six competing drivers, Evan lies fifth in the overall points standings.
In the heats leading up to the final round, Evan won the first on-the-road and placed in great points accumulating positions in the others.
Starting the final in third position, Evan knew that the other eleven drivers on track with him were the best of the best from the day.
Battling hard for second spot for several laps, Evan was caught out when the competitor directly in front of him bobbled and Evan swerved to avoid contact. That momentary loss of momentum allowed the two following drivers to take advantage and pass the duo and take over the second and third positions. Evan returned to battle with fellow Victory Lane Karting teammate, Don Osmond for the fourth position. At the checkered flag, Evan crossed the line virtually latched to Osmond's bumper for a strong fifth place finish.
"I certainly had a lot of fun today!" Evan noted after the race. "I expected tight competition but this was even better than that! I look forward to all the remaining rounds of the Championship. Thanks to my dad, GoEnzo.com and Joe Cooley of Circuit Motorsports."
Round 2 of the NCIKC moves to Race City USA, Mooresville, North Carolina. The event will be held at The Pit Indoor Kart Racing facility on March 22nd.
Evan offers his gratitude to sponsoring partners, GoEnzo.com, YGM LLC, and Circuit Motorsports

VLK Endurance Kart Race = 12 Hours of Action!!

Evan York, driving smart...and fast!
Joining SPEEDtv.com's Jade Gurss on his fingerprint inc. team for the recent 12 Hour Endurance Race at Victory Lane Karting in Charlotte, NC was tremendous fun!
Both Evan and his dad Kevin were part of a five driver team that enjoyed an extremely competitive event - with other competitors like NASCAR Cup driver Joey Logano of Joe Gibbs Racing.
See Jade's SPEEDtv.com column about the event here.

VLK 12 Hour Endurance Race - Evan and Dad are on!

Evan and Dad (aka, Kevin York) have been recruited by Jade Gurss and his fingerprint inc. team for the 12 Hours of Victory Lane Karting endurance race.
Victory Lane Karting (VLK) - an indoor race facility located in Charlotte, NC - is hosting their first twelve hour endurance race sponsored by Red Bull Energy Drink on this Saturday and Sunday.
The event will begin Saturday at nine pm. The actual endurance race will then start at midnight and conclude twelve fun and fast-paced hours later at noon on Sunday!
The race track at VLK is a one-third mile road course that will challenge any driver.

The karts are made in Europe by Sodikart and are the latest RX7 model - these are not your ordinary karts. They are actual racing karts that reach top speeds of forty miles per hour at two-inches off of the ground.

Check back for further updates - perhaps even during the event!

Yet another practice session!
Evan and Dad put "Foxy" (the kart) in the trunk of "Hans" (the BMW) and headed off to Lowes Motor Speedway for an informal practice session of the Speedway Karting Club.
After signing in, Evan wasted no time in prepping the kart and taking to the track!
He logged many laps and had some impressive dices with other karters on the track...until the right side seat stay (a part of the frame) broke! Ouch.
The duo called it a day and started making plans for stripping the chassis for appropirate welding repairs to take place.

Evan and friends enter Endurance Karting race event

Evan York has created a team with two other North Carolina racers in a collaborative effort to compete in the upcoming Endurance Karting event November 9th at Lowes Motor Speedway.
Driving with Evan will be the brother and sister duo of Neil and Shelby Hammerstein of Garner, NC.
Neil and Shelby are well known in the indoor karting ranks as fast and competitive drivers. Both are regulars at Rush Hour Karting in Raleigh. Additionally, they are actively involved in the Raleigh Area Public Safety Racing League also known as the RAPS Youth Racing League.
For this event Evan has secured sponsorship from GoEnzo.com the promotional website for the New York Times Bestselling book, The Art of Racing in the Rain authored by Garth Stein.
Neil and Shelby have received their sponsorship for their effort from the Raleigh Area Public Safety Racing League promotional fund.
The event will be held at the CIK/FIA kart racing track located at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, NC.

Endurance kart racing was essentially developed in Europe for those who wanted a demanding, but inexpensive way to participate in long distance motor races using teams of drivers.
Patterned after endurance sports car racing like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Daytona Rolex 24 and the Sebring 12 Hours of Endurance, this popular form of motor sports has taken root and grown all over the European continent.
This event at Charlotte will certainly test the mettle of the trio, however they claim they are up to the challenge!
Check back here for more updates on this exciting project!

Last out, first in. Evan wins first race of 2008 in style!
9 March 2008 | Darlington KartWay, Darlington, SC

Evan shows the competition he means business!
Evan York (89) on his way to victory at Darlington KartWay!
Raceday dawned as a cool and clear day - one day later and better than the originally scheduled Saturday events. With the weather that passed through South Carolina the previous 24 hours making the track very green, practice was as much about learning the track as it was rubbering in a racing line!
After the practice and lunch time, heat and main races were held.
Evan lined up in the back for the reverse-grid in the 100cc class.
At the drop of the green flag, Evan had made it to second position by the first turn!
Evan (number 89, far left) peering into Turn 1 amongst the throng!
Thereafter it was a great duel for several laps as the race leader and Evan tussled for the top position.
Evan made a decisive move to pass in a tricky and less than obvious section of the track.
This move proved to be the winning one as his surprised competitor never had an answer for Evan.
By the finish, Evan had pulled out a six kart lead on second place.
A great finish and one happy driver!!
Evan making last-minute pre-race checks on his race kart.
The happy winner showing off his hardware!
Darlington KartWay is located on the premises of the Darlington Raceway. The track is a twelve turn road (sprint) course.
Class structure is selective for 4-cycle and 2-cycle classes, including vintage classes.
Darlington KartWay abides by the rules and regulations of the World Karting Association.

Thanks to Ted Allred and Steve Peterson!

Evan tests new Stratos karts at VIR's kart track

Evan York getting ready to move out from the kart track's pit garage.
Evan recently traveled to Alton, Virginia once again.
This time for the purpose of testing the new karts at VIRginia International Raceway's Plantation Valley Kart Track.
The new karts with their larger, 270cc, 9hp Honda engines provide more power over a wider usable range, increasing the similarity between the karts and larger, more advanced racing machines. Combined with more predictable handling of the newer chassis, these karts promise to give an enhanced experience for guests of Plantation Valley Kart Track.
“We spent a lot of time finding the best choice of karts and best options for VIR,” said Plantation Valley Kart Track manager Michael “Skeeter” Fowlkes. “We know that these karts will make the kart track more enjoyable for our guests and make better racing.”
"After nearly five hours of testing each of the karts, I can say that drivers who come to Plantation Valley Kart Track will enjoy well-sorted racing machines!" exclaimed Evan at day's end.

Runnin' with the 'Bulls...and a guy in a Crown (Royal)
1 December 2009 | Lowes Motor Speedway
On this clear and cool winter day, many go-kart racers were eager to continue testing at the kart track situated in the vast environs of Lowes Motor Speedway's infield.
Naturally, Evan was ready too!
Dad and Evan packed the race transporter (okay, okay, the rental van...) and headed out.
Upon arrival we found our friend Steve Peterson of NASCAR.
Along with Steve were Red Bull Motorsport athletes AJ Almendinger (former Champ Car and now NASCAR driver) and Scott Speed (former Formula One driver and now ARCA driver)!
Also amongst the throngs of kart racers was Jamie McMurray (NASCAR driver sponsored by Crown Royal - hence the title comment above) and the ever-present Lake Speed (no relation to Scott... Lake being 1978 Karting World Champion and former NASCAR driver).

AJ (in the helmet) and Scott (in the white "hat") scramble for some reason...

NEVER let race car drivers work on their own vehicles?!

Evan has just asked Dad (taking the photo), "WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY DOING?"

Evan, on track doing his thing! Fast, and smart!

Lowes kart test number two - fun and...
26 September 2007 | Lowes Motor Speedway, Charlotte NC
...some work too.
But once we got it back on track, Evan started turning fairly quick and certainly consistent lap times!
This afternoon's three hour test session found similar - if not cooler - weather to our prior visit.
Again, Steve Peterson of NASCAR was there and very gracious in helping us where and when we needed him to.
Several attendees were present and hailed from multiple karting classes.
Many NASCAR team members on their way home stopped off to watch or drive. Ganassi uniforms mixing with Gibbs Racing next to Evernham folks.
Even Lake Speed showed up again. This time driving his infamous twin-engined (Rotax) kart - what a MONSTER!!
Because of the NASCAR race and other activities taking over the speedway during October and November, there will be no test sessions with the Speedway Karting Club until December.
Between now and then we are going to try and get to VIRiginia International Raceway's kart track for a test session or two there.
More later!

Evan at speed at Lowes during the test.
Evan "Evo" York had a fun, fast, and succesful first test session today.
The kart track at Lowes Motor Speedway is the very same that in previous years was used for CIK/FIA international karting competitions.
With the (much appreciated!) help of Steve Peterson and crew, the teething problems the kart had were met head-on with gusto.
This first session is one of many that will see Evan develop himself and the kart.
Looking forward, World Karting Association (WKA) regional and national events are planned for 2008.

Evan York has talk with Chip Ganassi
15 October 2006 | Newton, Iowa
Evan and Chip talk racing at Iowa Speedway.
Evan York and his dad travelled to Newton Iowa today to visit the new Iowa Speedway.
This brand new, state-of-the-art racing facility designed and owned by famed NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace was the scene of the Prairie Meadows 250 ARCA RE/MAX Championship Series Race.
Notable among the entries was ex-Formula One race car driver Juan Pablo Montoya. He is getting the feel for stock car racing this year as he prepares to begin racing in NASCAR's Nextel Cup series next year.
Montoya, wo will become the first foreign-born driver to race full time in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, has signed with Chip Ganassi Racing.
Race team Owner Chip Ganassi shocked the racing world in mid-July when he announced Montoya had signed a multi-year deal with Chip Ganassi.
Following a strong career as a driver, Chip Ganassi created his own one-car IndyCar™ team in 1990 and established a partnership with a new sponsor, Target Stores. Today, his teams include two cars in the Indy Racing League, three cars in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, two Daytona Prototypes in the world of Grand American Sports Car racing and one entry in the NASCAR Busch Series.
As a fledgling racing car driver himself, Evan was keen on meeting both Chip Ganassi and Juan Montoya....which he did!
Stay tuned for more updates!!

1 August 2006 | Catania, Sicily
After more than a week of travel through Europe on an educational sojourn, Evan now looks forward to a first-time meeting of new friends on the island nation of Malta.
During his stay with a Maltese family, Evan will take some time at the weekend to compete at Malta's best venue for karting, Badger Karting at Ta'Qali Raceway.

Badger Karting has a fleet of karts, some of which can reach speeds of up to 80km/h. When combined with the twists and turns of the 17 different track layouts, they deliver a perfect blend of thrill and adrenaline.
Evan, as a seasoned competitor with these types of racing machines, should be able to settle in quickly.
He'll spend his time getting used to the new track configuration - whichever one of the seventeen they run on - and also to have FUN!!

Evan and Dad visit Sugar River Raceway
20 July 2006 | Brodhead, Wisconsin

Evan and Dad recently visited Sugar River Raceway for some hot laps and practice.
Sugar River Raceway is a half-mile long paved asphalt road course designed and built specially for go-karting. The track has been in continuous operation since 1959, and is owned and operated by the Fairman family. It takes its name from the Sugar River, which borders the property on the north and east sides.

They day was a warm one and in full race gear, both racers were quite warm when done(!)

Evan York sets fastest time of month at Champs Karting

1 June 2006 - Seattle, WA / Madison, WA
Evan York of EVAN YORK Motorsport (subsidiary of YORK Motorsport) was able to set the "road course" fastest time of the month for May 2006 at Champs North in Mill Creek, Washington USA.
His time of 22.90 seconds (set on 3 May 2006) was quickest of the hundreds of competitors that visit Champs each month!
Champs Karting is an professional race club cum indoor karting center that serves the Seattle community.
Indoor karting is an extremely popular sport in Europe where there are hundreds of karting centers. Indoor karting is not the "kiddie kart" at the amusement park you've seen the kids drive. Indoor ProKarting is real racing in a high performance racing kart on a specially designed indoor racetrack. Drivers compete against their personal best time and also race against others. Win? They brag, Lose? They mope. Simple.
Karting is what many pro's did before they turned pro -- did you know that Michael Schumacher,Michael Andretti and Ayrton Senna all began their career in karts?!
Evan's on the same track it seems!!

UPDATE - Evan York and Dad consider 2006 Indoor Kart World Championship
Due to a scheduling confict, YORK Motorsport may not participate in this event. Check back often for more details as they present.
5 November 2005 - Seattle, WA / Madison, WI

After initial conversations with the management staff (aka "Dad") of YORK Motorsport, it has been decided than an effort to compete in the 2006 Indoor Kart World Championship (IKWC) will be put forth.
Indoor kart racers from all over the world will meet to compete and determine the season’s World Champion Driver, World Champion Team, and starting in 2006, a World Champion Nation.
"With all the indoor racing that Dad and I have done and continue to do here in the Seattle area, I think that competing for a World Championship would be really cool!!" Evan was heard saying to someone.
In talking with Kevin ("Dad") York, he was heard saying: "We've talked about forming a two-driver team. To have YORK Motorsport represented on the world stage would be a neat addition to our accomplishments. Taking what we've learned on the local scene and comparing it to the abilities of other indoor racers from around the globe would be a great challenge!!"

Austrian driver Werner Truegler (orange helmet, center), 2005 World Championship Driver’s Title winner.
In 2005, the IKWC united in competition for the first time some of the best indoor kart racers in the world from the Netherlands, Austria, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Canada, USA, Jamaica, and Ukraine, and included numerous experienced drivers from many levels of racing as well as less experienced hopefuls looking for a real challenge. The 2005 IKWC event was featured on Racer Magazine, National Kart News, and the Motorsports Mania TV show on Fox Sports.
The host track for the 2006 Indoor Kart World Championship by Racingschools.com will again be the F1 Race Factory Indoor Kart Racing facility in Phoenix, Arizona – USA. This world class, state-of-the-art facility has just completed its second year of operation.

F1 Race Factory.
Housed in a self-contained 14.000 sq.ft building, of which ¾+ is used as racing area, the F1 Race Factory is currently North America’s largest indoor kart track facility.
Evan York and his dad, Kevin York - both of YORK Motorsport - are seasoned indoor racing veterans. Competing and practicing in many of the Seattle-area indoor racing centers has brought them many good times - and successes!!
Watch this space - as well as updates on YORK Motorsport's main website - for further information as this exciting project builds momentum!

Evan York practices, practices, practices at SyKart!

In a blur of speed, Evan York (camera's right), passes another indoor racer at SyKart.
After a fun day helping Dad at Pacific Raceways, Evan York of EVAN YORK Motorsport, proclaimed himself to be in a "racy mood".
Therefore, a stop at SyKart Indoor Raceway was in order!!
As a regular competitor, Evan is recognized by the SyKart staff as one of the "fast ones".
As such, he is often asked to race with more experienced drivers at the track.
When Evan (usually) passes them all, they are in awe after the race when he removes his custom-chrome helmet and see that he is not yet even a teenager!!!
Evan seems to always have a sly grin when this occurs....
