Evan to Test Sprint Car at Carolina Speedway
UPDATE: THE TEST HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED. FEBRUARY 13th IS THE PROPOSED DATE. HOWEVER, THE FORECAST PRECEDING THAT DAY IS FOR A RETURN OF UNSEASONABLE SNOW AND COLD. DUE TO THOSE CONDITIONS, THE TRACK SURFACE - WHICH IS CLAY - MAY NOT BE SAFELY PREPARED FOR PROPER USE. STAY TUNED...
In an effort to increase his versatility and have a new experience, Evan will be testing an open-wheel sprint car at Carolina Speedway in early January.
For those readers that aren't familiar with what a sprint car is, here is a description from our friends at the Dirt Track School:
"The Sprint Car is the thoroughbred of dirt track racing. This unique racecar’s lightweight frame gives the Sprint Car an impressive power-to-weight ratio, while its massive top wing and huge right rear tire push the limits of what a dirt track can handle. The Sprint Car uses a direct drive system that reduces weight and prevents the loss of power through a transmission. The Sprint Car runs on alcohol and is a push-start racecar."
The experience will be very different from the open-wheel formula cars Evan has driven on world-class road-racing circuits or the go-karts he has raced and won in.
"I'm very eager to have a chance to try out something new!" enthused Evan recently from his Charlotte, NC home. "I look to motorsport history and see several drivers that have achieved a lot - and are respected - who have experience on dirt tracks in sprint cars. The car control skills I'll need to exhibit to keep the car in check can only help me in all my driving."
