"I look forward not only to driving with Rob and (friend and client) Tom Olsson - I get to live out a long-held desire to partner with my son, Evan York. We know the team - and sponsor, Car Tender - are working hard to continue their development of their BMW PRO3 car. We're counting on it being both fast and reliable. Our goal will be a P2 class win this year to go along with the P3 class win I enjoyed in 2004. Interestingly, Evan (as an eleven year-old) was with me for that race too - he maintained a lap chart for the team and talked to me on the radio at times, acting as a cheerleader and coach!"

YORK Motorsport Brings New, Green Partner To Red Clay
Evan York, of YORK Motorsport, returns to racing action at East Lincoln Speedway this Saturday in the track’s LiquiFix US Legends Dirt Modified championship.
After a strong start to the season, Evan missed the fourth round of the series to travel west and race sports cars at the 2011 Spokane Festival of Speed’s, Northwest Grand Prix.
“I enjoyed my recent time racing sports cars on a road course,” Evan said, “However, it was tough missing a points-paying round of the US Legends Dirt Modifieds. We were running second in the overall points heading into that event - and now we’re not. Regardless, we’re ready to get back to the red clay of East Lincoln Speedway this weekend, and have some fun!"
Joining Evan for this event will be a new partner to YORK Motorsport, LiquiFix, makers of a non-toxic multi-purpose lubricant.
Recently, LiquiFix announced sponsorship of the US Legends Dirt Modified series at East Lincoln Speedway.
This personal services partnership with Evan York and YORK Motorsport is in addition to that support.
“LiquiFix is very pleased to develop our partnership with the US Legends series and the East Lincoln Speedway,” Michael Lasavage, Vice President of LiquiFix said. “We look forward to working together and growing with the series as well as the associates within.... The talent and competition is very exciting….”
Understanding that motorsport is an obvious producer of carbon emissions, Kevin York of YORK Motorsport made the decision in 2007 to partner with leading carbon-offset organization CarbonFund.org. This partnership with LiquiFix is seen as a furthering of that effort.
"We recognize the important role we can play in reducing carbon emissions. We can help balance our carbon output by using effective and environmentally friendly products like LiquiFix. Their partnership with Evan and the US Legends Dirt Modified series at East Lincoln Speedway is an educational platform for both racing competitors and fans alike. It may not seem like much, but every use of LiquiFix is a small step towards a less-toxic race car, race track, workshop - and world." noted YORK Motorsport team principal, Kevin York.

YORK MOTORSPORT BRING ENZO OF ‘RACING IN THE RAIN’ TO THE DIRT TRACK
GoEnzo.com to be seen on Yorks’ US Legends Modified racecars during inaugural event.

“That which you manifest is before you.” - Enzo the dog
When Kevin and Evan York debut in a new racecar – the US Legends Modified - on a new track, and in a new type of racing for them, they’ll have a unique marketing partner at their side.
That partner will be old friend, Enzo the dog from author Garth Stein’s New York Times bestseller, “The Art of Racing in the Rain”.
While Enzo - the lovable mutt who longs to race cars and learn lots about life from his owner, Denny - continues to tell his story to a mostly adult audience, he now is sharing his tale with younger readers too.
Recently released, “Racing In The Rain: My Life As A Dog”, is now available in an edition for junior readers.
Perennial sports car, endurance road racer Kevin (dad) and kart racing ace (and up-and-coming road racer in his own right), Evan (son) will take to a very different type of motorsport in an effort to expand their variety of experience – and have FUN!
On Tuesday, 24 May 2011, Kevin and Evan will both compete in the inaugural race for the US Legends Modifieds at East Lincoln Speedway in Stanley, North Carolina.
The new U. S. Legends Modified dirt car, developed by Ray Evernham in conjunction with SMI and U.S. Legend Cars International, is designed for power, performance, and affordability. Evernham has overseen the design, fabrication and testing of the new chassis, engine and body style for the car. The cars are being manufactured at the U.S. Legend Cars International factory in Harrisburg, NC and sold through the current dealer network. The series will initially run at East Lincoln Speedway in Stanley, NC, which is owned by Evernham, and then expand to other top dirt tracks around the country.
“Evan and I have both tested the new US Legends Modified car a few times now,” noted Kevin. “We are very pleased to announce not only our partnership with Garth’s new adaptation of his great book, but that we’ll be driving cars prepared by Shawn Parker’s The Dirt Track Racing School, racing team. While many things are new to both Evan and I in this type of racing, we are intent on showing Enzo off to a new audience and have big fun while we do it!”

Kevin Donates Time Instructing with B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Pro-Active Driving School
Twice in the first quarter of 2011, Kevin York returned to the safe and controlled environs of a vehicle dynamic area to educate young drivers in the nuances of vehicle control.
On 19 February and 26 March 2011, Kevin joined other professional driving instructors in guiding over one-hundred-forty drivers through the B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Pro-Active Driving School - a 501(c)(3), safe driving charity, founded by NHRA Top Fuel drag racer Doug Herbert.
In his years of instructing, Kevin has worked with many types of drivers - from racing car drivers to newly-licensed teens.
"Perhaps no greater satisfaction can be attained by offering insights to skills and mindsets that may one day, be lifesaving. The intent - and indeed execution - will be to instill in the students a sense of control they can have over a motor vehicle - and themselves.
With an emphasis on awareness and vehicle control derived from experiential training, the B.R.A.K.E.S. program aligns greatly with my beliefs.
I am well-pleased that they've asked me to join them." noted Kevin.

Kevin and Evan to join SAE Carolina Section Associates at VIP Event
![]()
On 1 February 2011, Kevin and Evan York of YORK Motorsport will attend a technical presentation reviewing NASCAR's forthcoming introduction of fuel injection into the Sprint Cup Series.
Mike Fisher, Managing Director-Research and Development at NASCAR, will give the presentation.
There is significant conversation - some would say controversy - surrounding this topic so it should be interesting to hear Mr. Fisher's commentary.
"As a racer - and future college-level mechanical engineering student - I'm really looking forward to meeting other SAE professionals at this event" Evan stated. "It will also be interesting to hear about NASCAR's plans for fuel injection. They already oversee fuel injection systems in their Grand Am division's Daytona Prototype class now so I can't imagine it's too difficult. Or is it?"

WCTC Face Adversity Yet Finish Fourth In 6 Hour Enduro
Team Suffers Mechanical Blow On Opening Lap; Returns For Strong Finish

Kevin York in the WCTC BMW PRO3 car, preparing for race start.
During the second minute of a six-hour race, with Kevin York driving, the West Coast Touring Cars "YorDunFor" PRO3 BMW racing car suffered an engine valvetrain failure.
After nursing the car around the track and back to the paddock area, the WCTC crew - led by John McDermott of WCTC sponsor Car Tender - set to work.
After a miraculous repair performed in record time, York returned to the track to complete his long stint - setting class-competitive times in so doing.
The first driver change found Paul Forgey getting in for his driving time. Paul was met with wet weather and he faced it well driving consistent and careful laps in the increasing dampness.
WCTC team principal Rob Dunn hopped in for the sprint to the finish. The wet weather turned into a deluge - so much so that the race was called complete fifteen minutes shy of the full six hour mark.
In the end, WCTC finished a respectable fourth place in class against the likes of other excellent cars and drivers - such as BimmerWorld owner James Clay of SCCA Pro Racing and Grand Am fame who was driving a brand new PRO3 car in the event.

Kevin York Debuts New Helmet Design

The creative artists at Indocil Art have worked with Kevin to create a new and fresh variation on the usual helmet design he has run since 2001.
Working with the required basic theme of a silver shield covered by a blue St.Andrew's cross and adorned with a gold bezant (from the York family coat of arms), Ryan and Dwain at Indocil have created a sparkling and eye-popping artwork.
"The usual York crest 'shield' is depicted as a 'flag' in this one. As such, it is draped over a modern scheme - of which only hints of it can be seen. The dark grey and silver colours are favorites of mine - as is the hot pink that signifies a Taurean lucky colour! I really like the overall look. As is typical for these things, it looks even more spectacular in person!" related Kevin as he described the design premise of the new look.
Kevin debuted the helmet in competition at the 34th annual 12 Hours of the Cascades at Portland International Raceway, Portland Oregon.

Kevin joins WCTC for 2009 Twelve Hours of the Cascades
UPDATE: Follow along at our event Twitter page: www.twitter.com/OYorDunFor
York to partner with stalwart team led by 2005 SCCA Northwest Region ITA champion.

Kevin York will return to Portland International Raceway with West Coast Touring Cars' (WCTC) for the 2009 edition of the Twelve Hours of the Cascades.
The event is the 34th annual edition of the famed endurance race. Unique this year however, will be two events within one. There will be a six-hour race as well as the twelve-hour race. Both will start at the same time and competitors will be on track together. The six-hour event will simply end in the middle of the afternoon while those in the twelve-hour will race into the dark of night.
"Our participation in this event - and successful completion of it - will be an exciting way to continue the relationship with our friends at the West Coast Touring Cars team." Kevin remarked. "I look forward to driving with Rob again as well as our co-drivers for the event, Paul Forgey and Tom Olsson. I know the team - and sponsor Car Tender - are working hard to make the new BMW PRO3 car fast and reliable. We'll be gunning for a P2 class win this year to go along with the P3 class win I enjoyed in 2004."

Kevin Grabs Podium Finish at Northern Quest Casino Grand Prix
Great weekend amongst friends. Kevin drives two cars in four races.
Driving two different cars - one front-wheel drive, the other rear-wheel drive - meant that Kevin would be having twice the normal amount of fun this past weekend.
Despite mechanical challenges with both the WCTC Dodge ACR and the Olsson Motorsport BMW PRO3 cars, Kevin persevered on to competitive times with both.
Most especially satisfying was Saturday's Group 5 race in which Kevin started the BMW PRO3 car eleventh in class (EIP), and by the race's end was in second place, closing on the leader.
Sunday's race in the BMW was also good - while it lasted.
Starting that race fifth in class (much better qualifying!), Kevin was in the class - and overall race - lead by lap two.
During a spirited battle with two other-classed competitors, Kevin had the right front wheel lock up and opted to take an escape road rather than spoil the others' race. The resultant damage to the tire caused him to opt out of continuing on.
The WCTC Dodge ACR had intermittent - but persistent - engine electrical problems all weekend and proved frustrating - if not quick when it was operating normally.
Two great Group 1 starts resulted in eventual retirements for Kevin.
Overall however it was a great race event put on by Northwest Motorsports, sanctioned by the International Conference of Sports Car Clubs.
Kevin's next event with the ICSCC will be the perennial 12 Hours of the Cascades endurance race held at Portland International Raceway October 17, 2009.

Finished! Kevin and Evan York Finish 24 Hours of Charlotte

Kevin driving the fingerprint inc. kart sometime around four in the morning...
While the result certainly was not what team fingerprint inc. was after, great racing and lots of fun ensued at the 2009 24 Hours of Charlotte.
Putting a frustrating Friday night qualifying behind him, YORK Motorsport driver - and fingerprint inc. "ringer" - Evan York started the karting endurance race for the team from the thirteenth spot.
Driving in his signature methodical yet aggressive manner, Evan moved up through the field.
After his double stint Evan handed the kart over to his dad, Kevin York. Kevin maintained the improved position and handed over the kart once more to Evan.
At the end of the first three hours of the event, Evan and Kevin had collectively brought the fingerprint inc. entry well inside the top ten!

YORK Motorsport Entered in VLK 24 Hours of Charlotte Endurance Race

Father and son duo, Kevin and Evan York have again been recruited by Jade Gurss and his fingerprint inc. team; this time for the 24 Hours of Charlotte @ Victory Lane Karting endurance race.
Victory Lane Karting (VLK) - an indoor race facility located in Charlotte, NC - will be hosting their second annual twenty-four hour endurance race on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.
The event will begin on Saturday, May 23rd at nine am and conclude twenty-four fun - and fast-paced - hours later at nine am on Sunday, May 24th!
One of the premier endurance karting events in North America, Victory Lane Indoor Karting will show the competitors a few new twists and turns, thanks to a 15,000 sq. ft. track expansion and new generation Sodikart RX-7 racing karts.
Last year’s inaugural event was marked by a pass to win with less than 45 minutes remaining, and finished with just 11 seconds separating the winning team from second place.
Joining Grand Am competitor Kevin and front-running kart racer Evan, will be a top group of drivers from around North America.
Already entered are reigning U.S. Indoor Karting Champion Mike Smith and returning 24 Hour of Charlotte race winner Dan Burke. Both of those drivers finished among the top-10 in the 2008 World Indoor Karting Championships.
Home track advantage will be minimized during the 24 Hours of Charlotte, as all the karts are identical and assigned randomly. Additionally, kart equality will be maximized as the teams will switch karts at each fuel stop.

Kevin York Joins iRacing Mobile Marketing Tour at NASCAR All-Star Race
Professional racing coach and driver, Kevin York will be on hand at Lowes Motor Speedway to discuss and demonstrate iRacing’s web-based racing simulation service.

Charlotte, NC (YGM LLC) 1 May 2009 -- While NASCAR drivers and All-Stars are racing around Lowe’s Motor Speedway May 15 & 16, fans will have the opportunity to experience similar challenges on virtual race tracks at iRacing.com's 2009 Mobile Marketing display.
"From the start, one of the company's goals has been to expand the simracing community beyond its current boundaries," said Scott McKee, iRacing's vice president of marketing. "And we know that test drives are one of the best ways to do that. When enthusiasts have a chance to try iRacing and see for themselves how realistic our tracks and cars are - and how much fun it is to drive - they get it right away. Combine that with the competition side of our service, and subscribing, which they can do right there on the spot, becomes a very easy decision."
Being a racing driver coach, Kevin is always seeking ways for the drivers he works with to have more - and quality - training. “Many of my clients and fellow competitors use iRacing as part of their regular training regime.” noted York. “The quality of the experience is as close to the real thing as you’ll get.”

Grand Am competitor and VIRginia International Raceway regular, Kevin York drove one of VIR’s official Volkswagen R32 Pace Cars this past weekend during multiple on-track activities.

Kevin York works with Speed Secrets clients at Putnam Park test
Recently Kevin York worked with two Speed Secrets clients during what was a very successful 2-day test at Putnam Park.
The drivers were karting and Skip Barber graduate, Benjamin Searcy and young Canadian Ontario Formula Ford 1600 talent, Caitlin Johnston.
Searcy and Johnston are signed with ZSports Midwest to run the highly competitive 2009 Formula 2000 Championship Series in the team's Van Diemen RF02s
Both drivers quickly came to terms with the cars and the track, and showed their ability to work with Speed Secrets driver coach, Kevin York and the team.
"These cars are awesome," young Searcy said. "The power and handling is better than anything I've driven, and the reliability of the car allowed me to get in two full days of trouble free laps. I'd like to thank the team for providing me the opportunity to test. We had a ball and look forward to the entire 2009 season."
As for Caitlin, Ron Boltik (Owner/Partner of ZSports Midwest) had this to say: "We knew from the first session [at Mosport last year] (that) Caitlin was the real deal."
The F2000 Championship Series' first round takes place April 9-11 at VIRginia International Raceway.

Racing in a winter wonderland (for less than six hours...)

Kevin and Leon the Neon zipping to Turn 4 at Pacific Raceways during the recent (time shortened) 6 Hours of Pacific Raceways.*
After an overnight dusting of snow and with temperatures hovering in the low thirty's, the start of the Fourth Annual 6 Hours of Pacific Raceways looked erm, interesting.
After roughly one-hundred minutes of driving - and with snow falling hard enough to create a whiteout along with accumulation on the racing surface - the race was red-flagged and subsequently called.
A sad end to what was a fun - if not unique - race day.

TOP SIX FINISH FOR YORK IN 2008 KONI CHALLENGE SERIES DEBUT
Teammates York and Miller advance through field for great result.
26 January 2008 | Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach Florida

Starting from deep in the 97 car field of the Grand Am KONI Challenge Series’ season-opening race, Kevin York of Compass360 Racing (C360R) knew he’d have lots of work to do in order to move to the front.
Without any hesitation, his first moves were made on the opening lap with York passing several competitors’ cars.
York advanced into the top fifteen of cars in the Street Tuner (ST) class when, near the mid-point of the three-hour race, a fortuitous caution period occurred on track.
The C360R team took the opportunity to provide service pit stops and driver changes to all three of their Acura TSXs.
York handed an unscathed car over to co-driver Christian Miller – who continued the charge forward during his stint. Miller drove smartly to fifth place until a long brake pedal on the #75 GoEnzo.com, 034 Motorsport, C360R TSX did not allow him the normally-present great braking of the car. As a consequence, a competitor slipped by, placing Miller in sixth position at the race’s end – which occurred under yellow flag conditions.
All of the Compass360 Racing’s team cars finished in the top ten. This was a remarkably strong showing at the season’s first race. Karl Thomson and Travis Walker finished third, York and Miller in sixth and Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood, 2007 ST champions, finished ninth.

KEVIN YORK ON PACE WITH NEW TEAM AT DAYTONA TESTING
12 January 2008 | Charlotte, NC

With many new and challenging firsts to encounter, Kevin York traveled to Daytona International Speedway recently for pre-season testing for the Grand Am’s KONI Challenge Series.
With his new team, Compass360/Racing, Kevin had a new group of crew members and driving teammates to meet. Important among those to get acquainted with was new co-driver, Christian Miller.
Of course, another important member of the team was there also – the C360R Acura TSX #75.
“I was immediately comfortable in the car,” enthused York. “C360R crew chief, Ray Lee, clearly has great ability to assemble a first-class car. The crew and he worked hard and smart all weekend long as I and my teammates came to grips with testing.”
“Each session was an opportunity for me to learn more about the TSX. I certainly feel that it’s going to be a competitive platform this season.” noted York.
Indeed, York was eighth fastest in Sunday’s afternoon session, five-hundredths of a second from the pace of fellow C360R teammate and 2007 KONI Challenge Series champion, Adam Burrows.
The Compass360/Racing team will be ready for the 2008 KONI Challenge Series' first race to be held at Daytona International Speedway on January 25.

York and Dunn endure wetness at Four Hours of Pacific Raceways.

Pacific Raceways | Kent, Washington
"...there was a Neon running at a pace unlike I have ever seen a Neon running before."
The above quote - from a fellow competitor (who eventually went on to win his class in the event) - sums up the West Coast Touring Cars' 2007 attempt at the Four Hours of Pacific Raceways.
Apart from a bungled (read, l-o-o-o-n-g) pit stop for rain tires shortly after the four-hour speed contest began, York and Dunn hustled the Dodge Neon ACR around the soaking wet (but sometimes drying) Pacific Raceways for all it was worth.
Considering the car is "punching above its weight" in terms of classification, a ninth-place class finish and twenty-fourth overall (of thirty-nine) finish were very respectable.

"While I am not specifically involved in the manufacturing engineering sector of the sport, I thought it important to support my motorsport colleagues and the connection SME Motorsports is making, with my attendance." Kevin stated after leaving the event Wednesday.

Camp Motorsport is a success!!
23 July | Alton, VA
First season results are winning ones!
Speaking by phone en route to a meeting in Georgia, Kevin York of YORK Motorsport had this to say about Camp Motorsport:
"I am very pleased about how well the first season of the Camp went. The campers - I call them drivers - were all very enthusiastic young people. If the groups we had at the Camp are indicative of the youngsters growing up as motorsport fans and maybe even drivers, then our sport is in good hands!"
Kevin York, Camp Motorsport's Driving Manager and Chief Instructor relates a bit of information to a young racer at the Camp.

Kevin York (front car) shows a racing line on VIRginia International Raceway's Patriot Course. The following driver is a participant from Camp Motorsport. They are both driving Mini-Cup cars - 1/2 scale NASCAR-style racing cars.
Perhaps the best summation of Camp Motorsport is one that was written by one of the Camp's attendees. It can be found on the IndyCar.com website. Link is here.

Fun with Frustration
FUN WITH FRUSTRATION – KEVIN YORK AFTER THE EIGHT HOURS
Prior winner suffers DNF with West Coast Touring Cars team
17 March 2007| Portland International Raceway, Portland, Oregon
Kevin York of YORK Motorsport lamented a mechanical failure of the West Coast Touring Car’s (WCTC) P2-classed car. The result was a non-finish at the Eight Hours of the Cascades sports car endurance race at Portland International Raceway on 17 March 2007.
York - a 2004 Eight Hours P3 class-winner - joined co-drivers from WCTC, 2005 SCCA Northwest Region ITA class champion, Rob Dunn and car owner Paul Forgey for this event.
WCTC elected York to drive the team’s first stint – planned to be approximately two-hours, forty-five minutes in length.

Kevin York, belted in the WCTC car prior to race.
"The team had three solid and fruitful practice sessions in the morning, before the event
." Kevin remarked after the race. "My teammates and I were optimistic for a dependable run to the finish of the race. With many strong P2-class contenders, we knew we’d struggle to be as fast as some of them. However, we planned on running consistent laps and working any attrition or caution periods to our advantage. However, we got off to a poor start when the car would not! (start) Once underway, we chased down many of our class competitors and the car was running fairly well. Eventually an engine misfire condition presented and the engine died while on-track. Per the event rules, only the driver can work on the car – anything else, including a tow to the pits – would have disqualified us. I labored trackside for about forty-five minutes with various spare parts and tools that the team brought to me via the closest opening in the track’s fencing. I did manage to get the car running again – only to have it repeat its problems. After hours of valiant efforts from the WCTC crew – including an attempt to get back in the race when the car “acted repaired”, with Paul Forgey behind the wheel – it eventually came to pass that the engine again died on track. At that point, we had exhausted all our spares and the car was brought behind pit wall for the final time.
”
I would like to thank Rob, Paul, and all the WCTC team for their “never give up” attitude. Too, I’d like to thank my son, Evan for his support and insights.
While we did not finish and we did suffer a certain level of frustration, we all left the event richer from the experience and had smiles beneath the exhaustion.

Kevin York enthused by Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series' schedule
7 October 2006 | Madison, WI

We need to make people aware of the real human cost of road traffic injuries. Five hundred children are dying every day and thousands more are being disabled or injured. This is why I support the campaign to Make Roads Safe;” Schumacher was quoted as saying at the recent British Grand Prix.

Kevin York mourns the passing of a friend and racer - Rory Price
2 April 2006 - Seattle, WA / Madison, WI
Friend and racer, Rory Price, died this past Friday night at Evergreen Speedway, Monroe, WA.
The sprint car he was driving impacted a wall at the Speedway during an evening practice session.
Rory, a long-time veteran of open-wheel motorsports, was test-driving the car as a favor to the car's owner. He was taken to a Monroe hospital after the incident but did not respond to resuscitation attempts.
The practice session was a tuneup for the first races of the season, scheduled for Saturday. But the races, which were to have included 38 NASCAR elite cars and about 20 winged sprint cars, were canceled because of weather.
Within the last few years, Rory had finally gotten married and he and his wife had a baby daughter within the last year.
He was as gregarious and fun-loving as a person could be.
While he was a fierce competitor on-track, he was equally generous in sharing his time, tools and race cars with his racing peers.
In fact, Rory offered us the use of his USAC midget sprint car for a test session a few years back at Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, Wenatchee, WA. His only stipulation to us that nite? To not lap faster than him!
Frankly, words cannot express the loss of yet another stellar human being from this earth.
Godspeed in your new journey Rory.

Rolex Sports Car Series Grows on SPEED Channel
Viewers Up 23%; Households Increase 14%

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 17, 2005) - The Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series has seen tremendous growth on SPEED Channel in the first part of 2005 with both viewers and households posting double-digit gains, and if the numbers from last month's Porsche 250 presented by Bradley Arant are any indication, this positive trend is going to continue in the second half of the racing season.
Through the first seven races of 2005's 14 race schedule, the Rolex Series has seen an impressive 23% increase in viewers and an equally strong 14% increase in households reached on SPEED Channel. These gains translate to an average Rolex Series race audience of more than a quarter-million viewers per show.
The jump in households reached was good enough to put the Rolex Series in some impressive company as one of the top-five motorsports series race event programs on SPEED in the first half of 2005. The rankings, which are based on the average number of households reached, saw the Rolex Series join the Crown Royal IROC Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the ARCA Re/Max Series and Formula One as the top-five most watched auto racing series on SPEED so far this year.
The television audience growth - which has been matched by similar increases in on-site attendance at Rolex Series races this year - has been attributed to action-packed competition on the track that has been among the best sports car racing to be held in North America in decades.
"It's no secret that the Rolex Series is growing," Grand American President Roger Edmondson said. "The competition is fierce with our great teams and drivers putting on racing that is among the most competitive in sports car history. As the fastest growing sports car series in the country, we expect our television numbers, attendance and entries to continue to increase, and we are pleased that our competitors are getting the recognition they deserve."

Kevin York has another podium finish at Team Continental NBCF Grand Prix
Adversity doesn't deter effort.
Kevin York passing yet another competitor at Spokane Raceway Park. Photo courtesy of Walt Conley.
Once again we were honored to be invited to drive the "little Neon that could" by our friends at Forgey Racing and Mascot Theory Motorsports.
Having had such a good run - with lots of FUN at Seattle in May - all parties planned on the same for Spokane...
The event we were to take part in was the Team Continental presents National Breast Cancer Foundation Grand Prix. This race was round six of a twelve-round series that stretches from April to October. The series is sanctioned by the International Conference of Sports Car Clubs (ICSCC). The ICSCC was founded in 1957 and is the largest sports car racing sanctioning body in the Pacific Northwest. It consists of five member and five affiliate clubs in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.
Transporting racing vehicles to each motorsport venue is sometimes more of an effort than racing the cars they haul!! I know Rob and Paul feel that is a gross understatement given the trials and tribulations they suffered just trying to get to Spokane Raceway park!!
The duo and the haulers set out on the Thursday afteroon preceding the weekend and arrived at the track Saturday morning at 2AM - after what is supposed to be a four-five hour trip!!!!
Fuel injection and turbo system failure in the big Ford truck and cooling system and engine management issues with the smaller Ford truck meant that both Rob and Paul had their patience taxed to the limit!!. After much consternation, creativity intervened and both Dodge Neon ACR racing cars made it the front gate of Spokane Raceway Park and the duo fell fast asleep - in the cab of the remaining-as-running big Ford truck.
Meanwhile, at the comfy Holiday Inn nearby, we were sleeping soundly in our beds after a nightime blitz accross Washington state in our trusty BMW 528i, "Hans" - so named by my son)...

Kevin York invited to drive at Team Continental NBCF Grand Prix
Following from the positive results at Pacific Raceways in May, Forgey Racing has again invited Kevin York to drive their Dodge Neon ACR.

Kevin York leading a competitor at Pacific Raceways - May 2005
The event this time will be the Team Continental Presents National Breast Cancer Foundation Grand Prix. This race is round six of a twelve-round series that stretches from April to October.
Held at Spokane Raceway Park and in the middle of a hot summer as it is, the race should prove to be as challenging as any.
"I'm very pleased to know that Paul Forgey of Forgey Racing has invited us to drive his racing car once again. The Improved Touring A (ITA) class that the car will compete in is a very competitive one. Also, Spokane Raceway Park is one of my favorite road-racing courses in the Northwest! Coupled with the fact that we'll be racing along side our friend Rob Dunn of Mascot Theory Motorsports in a similar car and we have a recipe for a FUN weekend. To top it all off, I'll have my son and fellow YORK Motorsport teammate Evan York helping me".- Kevin York

Podium finish for Kevin York at Pacific Raceways!!
With less than a dozen practice laps in a new car, Kevin York finished on the podium in a hotly contested Improved Touring A (ITA) class in the International Race Driver's Club "Salute to the Troops" sports car road race at Pacific Raceways.
Kent, Washington - 22 May 2005 -- With less than a (combined) dozen laps in practice and qualifying, Kevin York qualified the Forgey Racing ACR Neon in the top ten of a hotly contested ITA field. His subsequent movement through the field during the race - to finish on the podium - was due to relentless effort.
For the dry-wet-dry half-hour race event, York got a great start and passed several class and group cars in Pacific Raceway's long and fast turn 2.
Adjustments and adaptation to the rapidly changing weather meant York was very busy!
During the mid-race wetness, York was able catch and pass several out-of-class (and ostensiably faster...) cars. He hoped the rain would continue....
However, the sun returned and a dryline around the 2.26 mile road course presented an opportunity for other cars previously passed to regain ground.
York's finishing position of third (from eighth) was lauded by crew and competitor alike.

Kevin York's Laguna Seca US Sportscar Invitational notes
The Compass360/Racing cars in the Laguna Seca pitlane.
This past weekend was a bittersweet one for us here at YORK Motorsport.
To be at a track and not be racing or coaching another driver was difficult... Spectating is no longer all that fun...
However, it was nice to be among our friends in the racing community! We ran into many co-workers from Speed-Secrets, our friends from TC Motorsports (who did wonderfully in the Pro Spec Miata race..!!) among others. The Formula BMW USA youngsters also really impressed us - especially Sunday's race-winner, Richard Philippe who in our opinion is one of the smoothest and fastest in that field.
Most of our activity on Saturday was with our friends at Compass360/Racing. We acted as Team strategist and also handled timing and scoring duties during the race. Below you'll find Karl Thomson's race report:
Laguna Race Report April 29-30Our crew headed out early to the second California race of the season to repair damage to the cars from Fontana a month earlier, which included the fitment of a new engine to the 36 car. Crew Chief Ian McQuillan and Aron Cristan spent the week prior to the Laguna Seca race getting the cars back to tip to shape, and as ever they came off the trailer ready to race.
The driver line-up for this race was our most promising yet, with two young Skip Barber scholarship winners -- 18-year-old Billy Johnson and 19-year-old Chris Wehrheim -- taking the helm of the revitalized 36, while sports car legend J.C. France joined me in the 06 car. France is no stranger to Grand Am competition, as he's raced a Daytona Prototype in the series' top class for the past three years. His co-driver in that car is Hurley Haywood, so I felt like I had some pretty big shoes to fill!
The drive from San Jose (just south of San Francisco) down the coast to Monterey, CA is truly lovely. Wonderfully lush, pastoral landscapes dotted with Spanish villas and great vistas of the Pacific over tall, undulating dunes took us to the track, which must surely be one of the best driver's tracks in the world. We managed time for a track walk after unloading the rig on Thursday, and you'd not believe the elevation change from the front straight up to the top of the "Corkscrew". Perhaps the most famous corner in motor racing, it's usually what one thinks about when considering Laguna. However, it's just one of eleven corners that make up this very technical circuit. I looked forward to learning it!
Grand Am Cup was just one of a bunch of series running at Laguna, and so we didn't get a lot of practice time before qualifying. J.C. had time in both our car and the Prototype, and got up to speed more quickly, so her qualified for 06. Billy and Chris both did well in 36, but Johnson's extensive experience at Laguna helped him be the faster of the two in practice. He qualified for them.
One item of some amusement: during practice on Friday I tried to brake successively later and later into the Corkscrew. Well, I learned where the last possible braking point is because I overshot the corner and proceeded through the dirt Alex Zanardi style, narrowly missing the tire barrier and returning to the circuit losing very little time. Remarkably, there was no damage to the car and I kept on going. Even more remarkably, someone caught the incident on videotape, which is available for your amusement...Download file. Thanks to the guys at Anchor Racing for the footage!
Saturday was a busy day. Our second practice session started early at 8:45, qualifying at 11:20, and the race at 2:40. Which meant all of the drivers were told "no mistakes!" Qualifying proved to be the usual melee, the fifteen minute session resulting in an 11th-place position for the Johnson/Wehrheim car, and France putting our car in 15th. The competition in GA Cup is really coming on strong as the season progresses, with less than two seconds separating the top 20. Over a two-and-a-half hour race, complete with various cautions and pit stops, this really isn't very much when laps tend to take 1-minute 45-seconds.
The cars took to the grid, with Billy and J.C. getting good starts. Johnson managed to break free of the tough battle for 10th through 14th, while France was right in the middle. There was a lot of jockeying for position every lap in that fight, which unfortunately resulted in a rather lengthy agricultural excursion for the 06 car. Somewhere during the grassy run the power steering pump was knocked off, trashing the serpentine belt. J.C. demonstrated some good heads-up driving by shutting the car down as soon as the water temp rose, and coasted the car into the paddock where our crew recovered it and took it back to the paddock. Ian started his usual magic while Aron and Ryan took over in the pit, with my father Phil and our friend Kevin York (who drove with us last year at Fontana) ably handling timing and scoring.
In the meanwhile, we'd called Billy in for a quick splash of fuel under yellow, which extended our pit window for the second stop. While Ian and Darryl worked to get 06 back on track, we waited in the pit for a perfectly-timed yellow. It came on lap 43, Johnson having brought the 36 car up to sixth position! And on lap 52, I took the miraculously-running 06 car out for a run to the end. For me, I was out to try and make up laps from other cars that had fallen out of the race, and consequently took great pains to move out of the way and not ruin the other battles for position in the closing stages of the race. That said, I still managed to learn the track and improve my times, equalling those of J.C. and a little better than Chris. Billy, however, was the fastest of our drivers on the weekend, consistently turning laps equal to the front-running teams.
When the checkered flag fell, car 36 continued our top-ten run, finishing ninth. A really fine drive by two up-and-coming young drivers who you'll no doubt be hearing a lot more about in the future. Car 06 made up three places by returning to the circuit, crossing the line in 20th. In the last hour of a Grand Am Cup race there's a lot of attrition, and going back out resulted in additional points that will be really meaningful in the championship points. I'll will say that I'm somewhat disappointed with that result, as the 06 car performed really well and could also very easily have been in the top-ten. However that, as they say, is racing.
So a fine result for one car, and the Herculean effort we've come to expect from Ian and the Compass360/Racing crew to get the other one out again. I'm hopeful that our young guns from Skip Barber will be able to join us again later in the season, as I see real potential in both lads. I'm glad those guys were able to come and race with us!
In the meanwhile, the cars will return to Hockley Autosport in Toronto for a freshening (including a rather substantial amount of bodywork and undercarriage repair on 06) to be prepared for our next event, which is our first regional race in 2005 at Mosport in mid-May. The next Grand Am Cup race is close to home: Watkins Glen is just four hours from Toronto, and it runs June 9th to 12th. It's another fabulous, world-class track which our team knows quite well. Our race at Mosport is a week after that (June 17th-19th), and I expect we'll see a lot of our friends there.
We're looking forward to some really good racing at both venues.

Kevin York joins Compass360/Racing for Laguna Seca Grand Am event.
Having forfeited my race seat to JC France for this upcoming weekend's U.S. Sportscar Invitational Grand Am Cup race at Laguna Seca, I will still be working with the Compass360/Racing team. For this event, I'll act as Team Strategist between the two BMW Z3 coupes.
Below you'll see the press release from Compass360/Racing about the event.
Rest assured though, I'll still bring my racing gear along with me - just in case! ;-)

4/27/2005 - Toronto-based Compass360/Racing today announced the team's driver line-up for the Grand Am Cup event at Laguna Seca. J.C. France -- no stranger to Grand American as the pilot of the #59 Brumos Daytona Prototype -- will be sharing the #06 Compass360 BMW Z3 Coupe with team owner (and 2003 Ontario Regional Champion) Karl Thomson. "These BMWs look like they'll be a blast to drive, and I'm looking forward to some good racing in Cup," said France. "We're really excited to have J.C. join the team," said Thomson. "His experience speaks for itself and we're looking forward to returning the Z3s to the front of the pack."The team is also continuing their support of young North American racers by fielding two 19-year old Skip Barber scholarship recipients. Billy Johnson, who's recently competed in Formula BMW and Star Mazda joins Chris Wehrheim in the team's #36 Z3. "These two are quick, consistent and have extensive experience at Laguna that'll be a real asset," said Thomson.
"We believe that Grand American is one of the best places for up-and-coming drivers to showcase their talents," added Thomson. "This series is without question the premier venue to launch a solid career in motorsports. Our young drivers for Laguna have proven themselves in open-wheel competition and are now ready to take podium finishes in professional racing."
Compass360/Racing's support of young drivers dates to the team's inaugural year in 2004, where talents like Jody Trudeau and Jeff Hersh helped the team secure an 11th place finish in the GAC championship. In 2005, 23-year old Jeff Wallace, 22-year old Becky Swafford and Tim Hauraney have already been part of the team. Hauraney, in particular, parlayed his drive with Compass360 at Daytona into a ride in a Porsche 911 in the FIA/GT series in Europe.
"We're committed to supporting young drivers through our involvement in Grand Am Cup," said Thomson. "This is a televised pro series that's got a growing fan base and has had explosive increases in its field size, which is exactly what sponsors are looking for. Right now, there's no question that Grand American is the place to be."
Compass360/Racing fields BMW Z3 Coupes (with distinctive opposing blue-and-white livery) in the series, and its cars are currently running seventh and ninth in the championship. The team is supported by sponsors Compass360 Design + Advertising, Hockley Autosport, mmwave Technologies, Burry Signs and Nautical White Yachtwear.
The US Sportscar Invitational at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca takes place April 29-30, 2005, and will be televised tape-delayed on SPEED Channel.

Grand Am Cup To Visit New Venues in 2005

A visit to the Dominican Republic for the Grand Sport (GS) class, as well as a trip to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and two voyages into Canada highlight a markedly different 2005 Grand-Am Cup Series schedule. The 2005 schedule was announced today by Grand American Road Racing Association officials.
"As evidenced by today's announcement, the Grand-Am Cup Series has emerged as a showcase for the latest sports cars and sports sedans that can run alongside the Rolex Sports Car Series or stand on its own," said Grand American President Roger Edmondson. "We're delighted that we will be bringing the Grand Sport cars to Latin America and both classes back to two extremely popular venues in Canada, in addition to a full complement of terrific racing facilities in the United States. The 2005 season is sure to be another exciting year for the Grand-Am Cup Series."
The first stop on the 11-race 2005 tour will see the Grand-Am Cup Series on the historic 3.56-mile road circuit at Daytona International Speedway for a 200-mile race on February 4 during the prestigious Rolex 24 At Daytona weekend. Next on the calendar will be an overseas trip for the Grand-Am Cup GS machines for a 200-miler in the Dominican Republic capital city of Santo Domingo on the weekend of March 11-13.
The Grand-Am Cup Series links back up with its brethren in the Rolex Sports Car Series for races at California Speedway on April 1-2, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on the weekend of April 29-30, and Watkins Glen International on June 9-12.
The series then heads to Canada for a stand-alone event at historic Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, on the weekend of June 18-19. The race will mark the return of the Grand-Am Cup Series to the Canadian venue after a one-year absence.
The series rejoins the Rolex Series again at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala. on July 29-30 before returning to Canada and contesting its final stand-alone race of the season in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec on August 5-7. It will be the first Grand-Am Cup Series appearance in Trois-Rivieres since 2001.
The series makes its return to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on the weekend of August 26-28, followed by the annual trek to Phoenix International Raceway, which will host the second-to-last race of the season on the weekend of September 8-10. The breathtaking circuit at Virginia International Raceway will host the final round of the 2005 Grand-Am Cup Series on October 7-8.
All 2005 Grand-Am Cup Series races are scheduled for 200 miles, aside from Trois-Rivieres, which will be 150 miles in length. In addition, separate Grand Sport and Sport Touring races are planned for Trois-Rivieres and Phoenix International Raceway. Like the Rolex Sports Car Series, the Grand-Am Cup Series will also participate in the annual "Daytona Test Days" on January 7-9.
Specific information regarding television coverage of the 2005 Grand-Am Cup Series will be announced at a later date, although all 2005 events will once again air in the United States and Canada on SPEED Channel.

Afterglow...
Sitting in the Ontario, CA airport typing this allows me the chance to reflect on a great weekend. I'll detail our exploits as we move into the week; suffice to say that our goals were solidly met!
YORK Motorsport, in teaming with Compass360/Racing, took ninth place in The Lexus Grand American 250's ST class! In an overall field of forty-eight cars, we placed twenty-first - ahead of a lot of big teams and great drivers!
I'm very proud of our collective achievements - the Compass360/Racing crew of: Ian, Derek and Aaron had great enthusiasm and ingenuity. Our co-driver, team principal, Karl Thomson, qualified and took the start with great style and swiftness. My nearly two-hour drive to the finish was a blast! The BMW Z3 2.8 coupe' NEVER missed a beat!
Alaska Airlines is calling my flight - ah, but the afterglow still burns

Saturday morning, race day...
The crew of Compass360/Racing worked late last night in an effort to make some suspension repairs and adjustments. Ian McQuillan's ingenuity was in full force with creative solutions...! It is possible that we will qualify the car - Karl and I will talk again this morning about that. If we do, then we'll start the race and Karl will take over and run the second portion. Our pace is close to where we need to be...But we could sure shave a second and a half of our time and be happier... All, in all, we're having a good time!! More later! - KevinPosted by YORK Group at 06:45 AM

First Practice
Well, I sit here sipping water and making track notes. The little coupe' feels good. Karl and I are running similar lap times. The car does have a wee bit of turn-in push (understeer) and the crew is making adjustments now. Karl and I too, will make adjustments! ;) More later! - KevinPosted by YORK Group at 03:12 PM

Leaving on a jet plane...
EARLY morning flight on Alaska 472 will bring us to Ontario, CA and then a quick jaunt to California Speedway in Fontana in the rental box, erm...car.
The weather is predicted to be quite nice - 70s and sunny.
As of this writing, 48 cars are scheduled to take the green flag with 18 of that number being in our ST class. (The other class being GS).
On the other side of practice, I'll provide some (albeit short) updates from my mobile device to this site.
Special hello to Dr. Jo' and Evan and Chelsea - I love you all and wish you were going to be with me at the track! - Kevin/Dad

The time is near.
Greetings. This time tomorrow, we'll be at the California Speedway and preparing for our first practice session at 1:00pm (PST).
Karl Thomson of Compass360/Racing and I will be checking the car and the track (and ourselves) out around the sports car road course of the Speedway.
We'll have a second practice at 3:40pm (PST) to confirm our findings and work on any subtle changes we may have made to the car or changes we as drivers need to consider while negotiating the course.
The rest of the weekend's schedule is this:
Saturday, 30 October
9:00-9:50 Third Practice
11:15am Qualifying
2:00pm-5:00pm start of the Lexus Grand
American 250 race. (250
miles, 89 laps, 3 hour
time limit)
The anticipation of a great weekend is the current mindset here! We'll offer updates as time (and connections) allow. On to Fontana!
ps - For those of you interested in following our progress, ZIPPO sponsors a live timing and scoring section of the Grand American website. You can check it out here and monitor our (rapid) progress.

Racing, then walking...
Since, as in racing itself, we are always looking forward, let's consider what we'll be doing after the Lexus Grand American 250 Grand Am Cup race this Saturday...
Early Sunday morning, just a few hours before the green flag drops on the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series season-ending Lexus Grand American 400k at California Speedway, race fans and competitors (one will be me!) will have the rare opportunity to walk the 2.88-mile road circuit during the 13th Annual Inland Empire Heart Walk.
The event gets underway at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 31, five-and-a-half hours before the final battles for Rolex Series supremacy begin. The goal of the event is to raise $650,000 for the Inland Empire American Heart Association from race fans, heart disease and stroke survivors and community members who will participate in the three-mile fun walk. Participation supports cardiovascular and stroke community education and research.
Certainly a worthy cause...now if I could just hang around on the track and find an empty Daytona Prototype to jump into for the 400... ;)

This week, as we move towards our entry in the season-ending Lexus Grand American 250 at California Speedway, we are transitioning our preparation for the event away from the business side to the actual needs of racing.
The coordination of logistics and the financial consideration for any motorsport event are very taxing. The requirements necessary to drive the racecar in the event become a source of relaxation to be sure!
Going back over my notes from the last time I competed at California Speedway's sportscar course has me performing the process of mental imagery.
This process, applied to motorsports, has me recalling each nuance of the track - to include bumps and surface changes, as well as "the line" - and "driving" the track in my mind. The brain actually cannot tell the difference from the real thing when this process is done honestly.
I will say though that it might look a bit funny to an observer who sees me sitting down, eyes closed, making faint "car noises" and moving an imaginary shifter!
More later...

YORK Motorsport thinks BIG for 2005
For immediate release!
YORK Motorsport thinks BIG for 2005
2 September 2004 - Seattle, Washington
Kevin York of YORK Motorsport was recently an invited guest of the Super Truck Racing Association of North America (STRANA) at the Road America round of the American Le Mans Series.
In his never-ending quest to experience racing vehicles of every sort, York spent time with the STRANA officials reviewing and experiencing the high-tech Class 8 racing rigs at the famous Wisconsin racing venue.
STRANA, under the sanction of the International Motorsports Association (IMSA), is a governing body for super truck racing in North America under the leadership of Executive Director Brian Till. Till, a former professional racing driver who now works for motorsports cable channel, SPEED, says STRANA is bringing a racing property to North America that motorsports fans will embrace.
“STRANA's creation is the result of months of planning, due diligence, discussions with people in the trucking industry and trucking industry media, with track owners and management, with those who run super truck racing in Europe and those who have run super truck racing series on this continent in the past," said Till.
“The FIA European Truck Racing Series as well as a similar series in Brazil, have been wildly popular with motorsports fans for years.” noted York. “I’m of the belief that STRANA’s efforts to bring such dynamic racing to North America are well founded.”
Kevin, as a seasoned competitor with experience in multiple forms of racing series and vehicles, has reason to believe that this series will be very exciting to be a part of. To that end, he currently is engaged in the process of making contact with teams that will be positioning themselves to take part in the 2005 STRANA race season of six events.
STRANA’s creation of the Super Truck Racing Series provides a platform that does not exist for the trucking and transportation industry in North America. Every business that is involved with the trucking and transportation industry will see that there is nothing more strategically correct for this industry to align its brands with.
Sponsors and suppliers of the Tonka Super Truck Racing Series and STRANA include Tonka, Haldex, Alcoa, ArvinMeritor, ZF Group NAO, Fluidyne High Performance, Stack, Spal, Shields, K&N, ATL, Racing Radios, TruckSkin, Stand-21, Detroit Locker and Pittsburgh Power.
Based in suburban Columbus, Ohio, STRANA is the governing body for class-8 super truck racing in North America. Its mission is to promote super truck racing and the trucking and transportation industry.
Based in Seattle, Washington and Madison, Wisconsin, Kevin York is an internationally credentialed motorsport competitor. His YORK Motorsport offers exciting, brand-centered marketing opportunities.
